The Greenville Chamber’s Leadership Greenville Program, in partnership with Homes of Hope and Upstate Warrior Solution, will unveil a newly-renovated house on August 24 that a selected local veteran will soon call home. With the help of around 60 community businesses and sponsors, the Leadership Greenville project team raised more than $85,000 to complete a full renovation of an existing home in Greenville County. The home will now be offered at an affordable rate for a local veteran.

The Greenville Chamber would like to thank these sponsors for their donations that made this project possible. A big thank-you to Parallel Financial, Dodge Industrial Foundation, SouthState Bank, Preferred Home Services, and JWE for their incredible contributions to this project. Other partners include: AFL Telecommunications, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Alliance Consulting Engineers Inc., AT&T, Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC, Michelin, Sonfast Corp., Piedmont Natural Gas, The Blood Connection, Vulcan Materials Company, Blue Ridge Electric Co-op, Comfort Keepers, WCB (Women Confidence Builders), WTC (Women Talk Construction), and Stephen Schmidt. These sponsors supported the project through in-kind donations (such as roofing and flooring): RediCarpet, White’s Appliances, Mitchell Contract Interiors, Gateway Supply, Upstate Granite Solutions, Siding Masters, 84 Lumber (David Cordle and WBE Department), Glyn Babb Painting, SC Drywall, United Rentals, Sain Homes, Harper, The Roofing Company, Base 360, Home Depot, Reeves, STM Builders, Langston Construction, Crawlspace Medic, TRC Custom Renovation & Cabinetry LLC, Advantage Contracting, and Base 360.

The Greenville Chamber’s Leadership Greenville Class 48 started its “Be Hope for a Hero” project at the end of 2021. This project involved partnering with Homes of Hope and Upstate Warrior Solution, two local non-profits, to identify a deserving veteran and provide them with a safe, affordable home. In order to complete a full renovation, the group planned to raise $65,000. The home already had two bedrooms and one full bath; the renovation included gutting the home, updating it, and putting on an addition to accommodate a larger family.

Because of the funds raised, Homes of Hope will be able to offer a custom and very affordable rental rate, based on the veteran’s income. Once the veteran and family are selected for this home through Upstate Warrior Solution, Homes of Hope will work individually with the family to provide financial wellness training and mentorship that helps them craft their own personal map to success and achieve greater economic mobility. And it won’t just benefit one family – multiple families will rent this home for many years to come.
