They Pedaled, they Perspired, they Painted!
Greenville had one of its hottest days of the season this last Tuesday but that didn’t phase our 33 volunteers from the cross-country cycling trip, Bike & Build. With enthusiasm & energy, they joined us for a 12-house painting project in West Greenville. It mattered little that they had previously rode their bikes from Newberry, 70 miles away, the day before. Bike & Build swarmed Joe Louis and Queen Streets and made it happen!
We are not only thankful to this spirited group of young volunteers, but we are inspired by their passion for the cause of affordable housing. They have dedicated three months of their summer for the adventure of a lifetime, a cycling trip from Charleston, SC to Santa Cruz, CA, but more than that, they are riding to educate the public and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for affordable housing organizations around the United States.
This group is only 345 miles into a 4,144 mile ride that will end in California in August. Their particular route (there are 8 total) has already raised upwards of $140,000 which they will donate in the form of grants to various organizations. Impressive is the word that comes to mind! Bike & Build is advocating for an important social justice cause by literally putting their feet to action. May the same be said of us!
