Partners for a Pergola: Enhancing community at Aleda Terrace
At Homes of Hope we understand that building community requires much more than building new homes. True community is characterized by sharing & fellowship. Joyful moments abound when we see our families exhibiting genuine community. It’s seen through front porch visits and looking out for one’s neighbor; it’s through residents uniting for a common cause, like pulling together to report drug dealers and those who compromise safety for all.
Nothing feels better than to see Homes of Hope residents take ownership of their homes and their communities. After all, we can build a million affordable homes, but unless we encourage our residents to care about their home and community, all our building is to no avail. Revitalizing communities truly demands a revitalization of mindsets, as well.
We are thankful to groups who partner with us in promoting activities that encourage unity and ownership. Messiah Lutheran Church is one of these. After months of planning, designing, gathering, and building, a brand new pergola has been completed for the enjoyment of our tenants at our Aleda Terrace development in Mauldin, SC. Aleda Terrace houses ten families in The Home Depot Foundation provided a generous $1000.00 grant for the materials, and the men’s group from Messiah Lutheran went to work installing a pergola and grill.
Recently, we gathered for a Fall BBQ to gather our residents and volunteers together for a celebration! Aleda Terrace residents will now have a great space to enjoy for years to come.
As always, it’s not a true Homes of Hope event without an abundance of food and fun. Check out our photos below!
