New Partnership, New Homes for Families in Poverty

Country-wide there are numerous efforts to improve and increase the availability of affordable housing for our nation’s families in need. We have been privileged to play our part in this movement for the past fourteen years in Upstate South Carolina. As we approach the completion of our 400th home later this year we are thrilled to know that the number of homes we provide is increasing, but more than that, the number of families we can serve is growing as well!

Our newest innovation, LoCAL Housing, will increase our housing stock while also diversifying the kinds of families we can serve. Poverty-level families, those making between $985-$1300/monthly, will be the target group for this housing opportunity. Often times these families miss the income qualifications for other affordable housing opportunities, leaving them just out of reach of the dream of self-sufficiency, and even home-ownership. LoCAL will close that gap.

Equally exciting to us is the opportunity for men overcoming drug and alcohol addictions to participate in the construction of these homes and thereby upgrade their job skills and our local community’s workforce. Men enrolled in our one-year job training and discipleship program will play a critical role in LoCAL construction.

LoCAL construction is underway but we aren’t going at it alone! We are proud to announce a new corporate partner who has signed on to not only support the LoCAL vision financially, but to support it through the volunteer labor of its employees. Allow us to introduce Fluor Corporation, a global leader in design, engineering, and construction management, which will partner with us to build our first two LoCAL homes starting in September! Fluor is highly respected for its long tradition in community service around the globe. We are thrilled that they have caught the LoCAL vision and will join us in impacting the community in this important way.
