LoCAL Housing: The Launch!
It’s official… LoCAL Housing has launched! The program many years in the making was recently unveiled to nearly 100 influential community members through a virtual groundbreaking held at Zen in Dowtown Greenville. Much research and exploration of construction and funding logistics prepped us to know just how exciting LoCAL Housing would be for the Upstate community. Letting the community in on our newest housing initiative was one of this year’s best moments. The premiere element was sharing how LoCAL Housing will bring hope to poverty-level families without satisfactory housing options.
Guests arrive at our LoCAL launch event
At the launch we presented the LoCAL vision and the three problems this program seeks to solve. Our virtual groundbreaking video explained the issues & showed a peek at the construction site. The interns in our Men’s Development program participated as greeters and revealers of the scale LoCAL model which they built in preparation for the real homes they’ll soon be constructing.
Homes of Hope interns unveil ‘LoCAL Housing’Our CEO, Don Oglesby shared the significance of the program.
“LoCAL Housing is an innovative solution to three problems that poverty level residents of Greenville County are burdened with every day. Through our virtual groundbreaking, we are proud to officially announce that LoCAL is no longer just a concept—but a reality,” Homes of Hope CEO, Don Oglesby said.
Most importantly, we invited our guests to be a part of the team because LoCAL Housing is a program that will only be made possible through community support. To symbolize their partnership that day, our guests signed the scale model of the house. In the Fall we will invite everyone back to celebrate the completion of our first two LoCAL homes in West Greenville!

With LoCAL we’ve taken a vision for affordable housing and turned it into a reality that holds tremendous promise for the future of Greenville. Not only will LoCAL provide an answer for the prevalent problems facing poverty-level families today—it will give the men mentored and trained by us even more of a foundation for future success.
The first two LoCAL homes are set for Summer 2012 construction
Since the launch significant progress has been made. Two sponsors have committed to fund the next two homes meaning a total of four LoCAL homes will be constructed this year! Read what others are saying about LoCAL in the Journal Watchdog, Greenville News, and Upstate Biz!
This is the final installment in a 3-part blog series about our newest idea: LoCAL Housing. Read about the dream in “LoCAL: The Vision.” and how it works in “LoCAL: What is it?” Stay tuned for construction updates as we move forward in LoCAL development.
