LoCAL Housing Complete! Finally, new housing options for poverty-level families.
“Building these homes is a sign of completion for me. Now I can give back to society instead of taking from it for so long.”
- Brad Berry, Homes of Hope Men’s Development Intern
This past week Homes of Hope rejoiced to celebrate another milestone in our fourteen-year history of developing affordable housing in Upstate South Carolina. After two years of research and design, LoCAL Housing became a reality in Greenville. LoCAL Housing, which we know will solve three problems with one solution, is the next step in our vision to serve families better. We celebrated our first two LoCAL homes, which also rank as homes #399 and #400 for our organization with an unveiling ceremony in West Greenville.

Supporters gather to cut the ribbon on our LoCAL model house. Several months ago, LoCAL was just a model house– now it’s a reality!

Having so many excited supporters and partners join us for the unveiling was quite exciting, but we were especially honored to have the clients served by these homes share their personal stories. A representative from our Men’s Development program shared his journey in building the homes, as well as the recipient family who will soon be moving in.
Brad Berry, HOH Men’s Development Intern, shares his journey from drug addiction to restoration. He and the other men in our program participated in the construction of these LoCAL homes.
Also among our supporters were representatives from Fluor Corporation, the company who joined us from the beginning of this process through a financial sponsorship and with the volunteer labor of over 300 employees. It was a joy to partner with Fluor for several weeks as its employees worked alongside our Men’s Development interns to build our first two LoCAL homes side by side.

Our LoCAL homes weren’t the only thing unveiled on this day. Our CEO also made the exciting announcement of the result of our 400 for 400 campaign. Nearly $31,000 was raised! We are thankful to God for each of those who supported our campaign. The result was exceedingly and abundantly more than we ever asked or thought!

As we move forward we have four more LoCAL homes lined up for construction- two this Spring, and two next Fall. Along with LoCAL we have 26 other units of affordable housing in some stage of construction. Things continue to move along! We are grateful to those who see the importance of our work and join us to bring it to fruition.
