Good News from West Greenville!
In a recent West Greenville Neighborhood meeting Homes of Hope’s Asset Development Manager, Denice, celebrated theattendance of 15 tenants from our community developments at Kingsview Point and Peridot. This attendance was higher than previous months and a noteworthy moment for staff because as we venture into neighborhoods like West Greenville and begin to revitalize communities which were previously riddled with crime, drugs, blight and dilapidation, we desire to see more than just quality affordable developments created. We hope to see whole communities changed; neighbors interacting and helping one another, children playing together, and families looking out for each other. The homes we build are a foundation for community and connection, but long lasting community transformation requires that our tenants express personal ownership and interest in neighborhood vitality. For this reason we rejoice that our tenants are placing importance on the sustainability of a healthy and thriving West Greenville!
We also rejoice at the example of one tenant who excitedly announced at the neighborhood meeting, “I have $1000.00 saved in my emergency account!” Financial knowledge is so critical to the long-term success of our tenants and often it is a tool that is missing from the tool belt when they arrive at Homes of Hope. Through financial counseling, budgeting, and the occasional bit of tough love, Denice is steadily equipping our tenants with the knowledge and resources they need to become financially stable. It’s relatable to the old saying, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” Our goal is to equip those we serve to be self-sufficient beyond the assistance of Homes of Hope. Therefore, whenever we hear the testimonies of those who are taking advantage of these tools we become personally encouraged! To see this ministry stretch beyond the creation of affordable housing to impact communities, neighborhoods, and lives gives testimony to the Lord’s faithfulness in our mission.
West Greenville Neighborhood meetings are open to all interested community citizens and are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the West Greenville Community Center- 6:30pm
