From Squalor to Safety: Affordable Housing Rehab Repairs
Perhaps a lesser-known element of our dedication to safe and affordable housing is our Owner
Occupied Repair (OOR) program. Grants enable us to provide up to $20,000 in emergency repairs to extremely low-income homeowners. These repairs come at no cost to the family as long as they, or their immediate family, remain owners of the home for twenty years. For families who cannot afford to fix a leaking roof, rotting floor, or in this family’s case, a wheel chair ramp, this program is truly a blessing.
Hope Contractors, directed by Nate Fleming, and assisted by our men’s development interns perform all of these repairs.
“Before Homes of Hope came, this house was a mess. Our bathroom floor was rotting out.We were scared that my little boy would fall off the deck when he played. Now we have a new deck and mama has a wheel chair ramp.” – Ashley, 18 years
The OOR program is part of our 5 Housing Strategies. It’s another way we can see families from squalor to safety & impact their lives and our community in the process.
