Blessed to Serve: Resurgent Build Continues
Sometimes in life we hear the stories of the less-fortunate and become so overwhelmed we wonder how we can possibly make a difference. In those times we can shrink back, helpless to make an impact, or we can make a decision to affect our circles of influence in the best way we know how. Little by little we can affect the world around us as we realize that the little things we do can become big things to those in need. Like a stone dropped in still water, the ripples continue further than we might have expected. As we continue our two-house build with volunteers from Resurgent Capital Services, we are so encouraged as we consider the ripple effect that their service will make in the West Greenville community for years to come.
Week 4 of Gower Street construction
Each Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Resurgent employees are giving up their personal vacation time to volunteer for four-hour shifts at our build site on Gower Street. The culmination of their tremendous work will result in two brand-new homes for families in need. We have been blessed by their cheerful spirits, their willingness to work hard, & their excitement for our cause. However, as we wander the build site we have heard their remarks regarding their experience and an attitude seems to resound: How blessed they feel to be servants to others.
“This has been inspiring. Sometimes in life we get so busy that we forget to give back. This is all about serving and helping the community.”
- Resurgent Capital Employee
Church members from Greenville congregations & caterers from local restaurants, all of whom community; they care about families; and they believe in our mission to provide housing opportunities to families and second chances to men with troubled pasts. What a beautiful dynamichave no official affiliation with Homes of Hope, have been donating their time and resources to serve lunch to Resurgent employees as they build. They do so because they care about the to hear lunch volunteers thanking Resurgent volunteers for volunteeringfor Homes of Hope!
Our Resurgent volunteer summed it up perfectly– it’s all about service! When we consider our lives, the blessings which abound, what more can we do but to give back for all that we have received? In the Apostle Paul’s last exorhation to the church at Ephesus he sums up the pinnacle of his teachings to them in this:We can’t tell you how encouraging this is to us as an organization to have support from corporations like Resurgent, as well as local churches and businesses! A Homes of Hope accomplishment is a community accomplishment because it takes so many hands to do what we do. But beyond all of that, a newly built affordable home, or a life change for a man conquering addiction is a God accomplishment. He is at the center of it all and He is the one who brings it all together. We are his instruments!
"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive." - Acts 20:35
We thank our many volunteers at Resurgent, as well as the gracious restaurants and churches who have been a part of the construction of these new homes! We are about a month from completion and eagerly anticipate the finished product. Stay tuned as we celebrate the home completion and the families who will be blessed by the endeavors of the Greenville community!
